Marko Dević: “One can be happy even with little money”

Marko Dević, the forward from Metalist Kharkiv, is the first football player from Western Europe to have put on the football shirt of the Ukrainian national team. History does not reveal whether it could have been otherwise, but it is known that he had acquired high qualification in mastering leather ball namely in the Ukrainian club: he passed his trial by fire and was formed in it, and he received an invitation from this club to play for the national team in a friendly match against Norway in November 2008.
During this time, Dević became one of the most experienced football players in the national team, but youth’s enthusiasm, portioned effrontery, implacable eagerness and constant orientation towards goal still win over in his play. Marko is preparing himself for Euro-2012 as the main tournament in his life and expects the continental championship to become successful for him and his partners under Oleh Blokhin’s supervision.
- Marco, what could you have become if you had not once chosen football?
- I have been together with the ball since early childhood. When I was a small child, I beat all walls in my grandmother’s flat on the fifth floor. I know for sure that I would have linked my entire life to sports. I take to it like a duck to water.
- With whom would you like to play in the same team?
- If you imply Cristiano Ronaldo or someone else, I shall have to disappoint you. I have wonderful partners in Metalist and in the Ukrainian national team.
- What kinds of sports, besides football, captivate you?
- If we count, it will be necessary to mention almost all of those I encountered in my life. I shall place a priority on tennis, both lawn and table ones, and basketball. Let me name billiards from among non-Olympic ones.
- Who, in your opinion, is the most prominent sportsman of all times?
- There are prominent personalities in each kind of sports. I think the one of this kind will appear in football in some years. If Messi manages to retain his present-day level for some more seasons, he will become the most prominent one in history.
- What is the most recent film that you have seen?
- “Tower Heist”. In general, I prefer thrillers.
- Who are your favourite actor and actress?
- I shall not speak about women because their talent can hardly be appreciated because of their beauty. As regards men, let me make special mention of Ben Stiller, Pierce Brosnan and Johnny Depp.
- What book impressed you most recently?
- Robin Sharma, "The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari". I can recommend: even Paulo Coelho admires it. I shall take up Ukrainian literature soon.
- Is a pet a family member?
- When I look at my friends, I think it is true. I adore dogs, but I have not got the one yet because I am convinced that one should get a pet only after having built a house.
- What TV programme you never miss?
- There are no such programmes.
- What cooking preferences have you got?
- I do not eat tasty meals, but useful ones. Sometimes I even have to force myself. However, it cannot be otherwise in sports. Fatty meals are bad companions for a football player.
- What was the most important event in your life?
- Moving from Serbia to Ukraine.
- Are there things which disappoint you?
- It takes me long to recover myself after defeats.
- Is there anything of which you are afraid?
- Only God.
- Tell us: what is the best way of easing stress?
- The best way is to stay together with the family. The proximity of relatives always appeases. People say that sex is a good energizer. I shall not deny this.
- Your formula of success is…
- Maximum dedication to the things you do, full devotion to it and belief that it will lead to the set goal.
- What three things would you take to a desert island?
- An icon of Sveta Petka celebrated on 27 October, on my birthday; my beloved Milica and a small ball.
- What irritates you so much that can make you lose your temper?
- Previously I often wound up because of trifles: even some news irritated. But I became calmer with the passing of the years.
- What expensive things did you buy most recently?
- I bought a new car six months ago.
- Is one million dollars little or a lot?
- It depends on the person. It will be little for someone, but someone else, having little money, will be happier than a millionaire.
- What would you have done with this money?
- I would have deposited half in the bank and the rest in real estate.
- What would you change in this country?
- Roads should be set in order. As Euro-2012 approaches, they are becoming more and more comfortable. There are too many holidays. It is necessary to work more.
- What is the most attractive country for living?
- I am happy with everything in Ukraine.
- In your opinion, what invention of mankind is most important?
- It is difficult to get along without means of communication in the modern world.
- What car do you drive?
- Audi А6.
- Have you got any favourite brands of clothes?
- I do not have a single one. I do not care: the most important point is that it should fit me. I can make a mix of different brands. But Dsquared clothes are likely to prevail in my wardrobe.
- What kind of music do you prefer?
- Serbian.
- What is your global dream?
- To have more children.
